How does it Work?

Message Sniffer's rules are created through a collaboration of automated systems (Rule-Bots) and people (Rule-Techs). The system is designed as a large-scale learning system where human and autonomous machine elements collaborate to produce and refine the filtering rules. The machines have strengths that people do not have, such as comparing and cataloging features on thousands of messages very quickly. Likewise, the people contribute insight that the machine cannot provide, such as recognizing a new spam or obfuscation technique with a single spam sample. The machines and humans check each others work, share new information, and learn from one another's successes and failures. The entire system evolves rapidly and retains what it learns as it moves forward. Rules created by the collaborative system are used to continually update the Message Sniffer "rules" database, which is downloaded by clients and integrated into their email environment as they choose.
