AppRiver Expands Executive Team to Accelerate Momentum, Growth
AppRiver, LLC, a leading provider of email messaging and Web protection solutions today announced it has expanded its executive team, adding a new executive appointment and three promotions to round out its world-class management team.
In newly created roles, Jeff Malone has joined AppRiver as Vice President of Sales, Michael Hamstra has been promoted to Vice President of Marketing, Chris Cain has been promoted to Vice President of Software Development and Doug Coleman has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer. The four bring to AppRiver decades of experience in sales, product, marketing and financial development.
AppRiver was founded in 2002 and has experienced a compound growth rate of 74.7 percent, increasing revenue in the last financial year alone by 23.5 percent to $53.9 million globally. The company has also seen significant Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) growth with revenues up 120 percent and seat activations up 362 percent since this time last year. AppRiver also grew staff numbers and expanded operations in Atlanta, Austin, Texas and Barcelona, Spain.
As VP of Sales, Jeff Malone will focus on driving revenue growth, as well as managing the sales team and directing the development of the sales department. Malone believes that developing and nurturing strong relationships with customers is key to keeping them for the long term.
“AppRiver’s 93 percent customer retention rate is proof that Phenomenal Care™ works,” said Malone of AppRiver’s trademarked dedication to customer satisfaction. “Our continued growth and success will be due to our unwavering focus on our customers’ needs and our services’ reliability.”
Prior to joining AppRiver, Malone was the director of enterprise sales, SE, at Trusteer, which was later acquired by IBM. At Trusteer, Malone helped strengthen the company's southeastern district by working closely with clients throughout the sales cycle and maintaining those relationships throughout the life of the contracts.
Before Trusteer, Malone worked in both sales and sales management at VSS Monitoring (Acquired by Danaher), National Business Group (NBG) and Forsythe Solutions Group (FSG). At NBG and FSG, Malone won the prestigious President's Club Award numerous times, solidifying his reputation as a sales leader.
Michael Hamstra, VP of Marketing, joined AppRiver in 2007 to lead the company’s marketing efforts, including its successful launch of new product lines, including SecureSurf™ and CipherPost Pro™. Hamstra also developed and implemented the go-to-market strategy for AppRiver’s Office 365 offering and managed the company’s marketing work during its expansion into EMEA.
Before Chris Cain, VP of Software Development, joined the AppRiver team in 2003, he had already designed much of the company’s proprietary spam and virus filtering software. Since then, he has been the primary architect and lead developer on many of AppRiver’s product offerings and management systems. Cain has helped build and lead a software development team that now competes with some of the most well-known companies in the world.
Doug Coleman, CFO, came to AppRiver in 2012, where he led the transition to a new back office system that has streamlined account invoicing and billing. Since then, Coleman has continually found ways to improve accounting systems and practices at the company. He is now responsible for all of the company’s accounting and financial management for both the US and EMEA operations.
“Michael, Chris and Doug have been critical factors in the company’s success and growth,” said Michael Murdoch, CEO and president with AppRiver. “As our company has grown, we needed to ensure the strength of our leadership team. These promotions are well earned. Additionally, Jeff brings decades of security experience that will help guide and grow our organization so to position us for continued long-term success.”
